Accessibility Statement for UKAD
At UKAD, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive experience for all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our site and services are usable and accessible to the widest possible audience, in alignment with accessibility standards and best practices.
Our Commitment
- We continuously work to make our website and services conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA standards
- We are dedicated to maintaining an inclusive environment that provides equal access to information and functionality for all users
- We regularly review our digital content to identify and address accessibility barriers
Measures to support accessibility
We take the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:
- Include accessibility as part of our mission statement
- Include accessibility throughout our internal policies
- Provide continual accessibility training for our staff
- Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities
- Employ formal accessibility quality assurance methods
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) outline standards to help designers and developers enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities. These guidelines define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. UKAD strives to meet the highest accessibility standards and is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means that, to the best of our knowledge, our content aligns with the accessibility requirements, with only minor exceptions that we are actively working to address.
Adhering to this standard not only aligns with our values but also ensures that our content remains usable for a diverse audience, including those with varying needs and preferences.
Our efforts include, but are not limited to:
- Consistent heading structure: Properly ordered and nested heading tags (<h1>, <h2>, etc.) create a clear and logical structure, helping screen readers interpret page content efficiently
- Descriptive links: Links are labeled with meaningful, descriptive text, avoiding generic terms like “click here.” Additionally, links include descriptive titles to provide context for users
- Alt text for images: Every image, including those in slideshows and galleries, features descriptive alt text that accurately conveys the image’s content
- Color contrast: We ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors for readability, enhancing visual accessibility across our content
- Avoid deprecated tags: Instead of using outdated HTML tags like <b>, <i>, or <font> for formatting, we rely on modern CSS to maintain semantic structure
Additional accessibility considerations
Although our goal is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, we have also applied some Level AAA Success Criteria:
- We try to make all content functionality operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes
- Also, section headings are used to organize the content to achieve Level AAA Success Criteria
Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology
UKAD is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Supported natively in widely-distributed user agents that are also accessibility supported (such as HTML and CSS)
- Our website is supported by the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari browsers
