About

Photowall is the most well-known producer of customized wall mirrors and wallpaper designs in the Swedish market. The company was born in 2006 when brothers Niklas and Charlie Johansson realized the market lacked personalized wall art options. With their technical background and a strong interest in design, they ventured into digital wallpaper printing. Despite having no prior printing experience, they acquired their first digital printing press in 2006, and thus, Photowall was established. Today, Photowall is a well-established company with offices and its own wallpaper production site in Stockholm, driven by a passion for quality, creative design, and custom-made products.

Challenges

In 2013, Photowall needed a robust e-commerce solution to handle their growing demand for custom wall decorations. The challenge was to develop an e-commerce platform that could integrate seamlessly with various third-party services and support their unique business needs. Additionally, the system had to manage a high volume of custom orders while ensuring a smooth and user-friendly customer experience. Maintaining and enhancing a legacy system further added to the complexity.

UKAD was chosen for this project due to our proven experience in developing e-commerce systems and our strong track record in the Swedish market. We developed a comprehensive e-commerce solution using PHP and Laravel. The platform featured multiple third-party integrations to streamline operations and enhance functionality. Throughout our partnership from 2013 to 2018, we provided continuous support and maintenance, ensuring the system remained reliable and up-to-date with the latest technological advancements.

Results

The e-commerce solution we developed for Photowall enabled them to efficiently manage and process a large volume of custom orders. The platform’s seamless integrations with third-party services improved operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Our ability to develop and support legacy systems was a key factor in maintaining the platform's stability and performance. By the time Photowall decided to move development in-house in 2018 due to new company policy, we had established a robust and scalable e-commerce system that continues to support their business needs. Today, Photowall remains a leader in the custom wall art market, with their products being shipped worldwide from their factory in Skarpnäck outside Stockholm.
